 What is Graphic Designing?

Before starting a career in graphic design first, we have to know basically what is Graphic Designing? Is that mean logo designing, magazine covers designing, vector designing, or what! All the terms like these come to mind when we think of graphic designing. But exactly what it is? It’s a profession, we can say that, but if we go a little deep into it- it’s truly an art- a visualization communication.

. Graphic Designing Definition –

The art or profession of using design elements (such as typography and images) to convey information or create an effect.

. Elements of Graphic Design.

Elements in graphic design are the basic units of any visual design that form the design’s structure and convey its visual messages. The elements of graphic design are:

  • Line – It has an endless number of uses in the creation of art. Lines can be curved, straight, thick, thin, two-dimensional, three-dimensional – whatever really! A line is simply an element of design that is defined by a point moving in space.
  • Shape – A shape is an enclosed space, a bounded two-dimensional form that has both length and width. A shape’s boundaries are defined by other elements of art such as lines, values, colors, and textures; and by adding value you can turn a shape into an illusion of its three-dimensional cousin, form.
  • Color A color is that element of art which is formed when light striking an object is reflected back to eye. Color has 3 properties:
  1. Hue – Hue is the name of color. (Red, Blue or Yellow)
  2. Value – Value is the lightness and darkness of a hue. The value of color can be changed by adding black or white.
  3. Intensity/ Saturation – Its meant to the brightness or dullness of a color. Pure hues are high-intensity colors. Dull hues are low-intensity colors.
  • Texture – Texture in art refers to the feeling given to a surface. This element of art applies to both the physical feeling of a piece of artwork, as well as the impression of a texture given to a smooth surface.
  • Size – Simply meant to that ho small or big something is. In Graphic Design, Size is used as an indication of importance and it can also create attraction in design by using contrasting sizes.

. Principles of Graphic Design.

Elements in graphic design are the basic units of any visual design that form the design’s structure and convey its visual messages. The elements of graphic design are:

  • Balance – Balance is one of the key principles of design, which refers to the way visual elements arranged so that their visual weight tuned with the other elements in the design, which gives overall perfect distributed elements in design.
  • Alignment – Simply meant arrangement in a straight line or parallel to something else. Alignment helps us to create a sense of unity by providing structure and connecting elements in a nice manner.
  • Proximity – Once you select or choose that how you are going to use pattern or symmetry in your design, repeat those patterns to establish consistency or uniformly throughout the design. This repetition ties together individual elements and strengthens the design but creating a feeling to communicate with design.
  • Contrast – It’s refers to the arrangement of light vs. dark colors, rough vs smooth textures, large vs small shapes, etc. as to create visual interest or attraction in design.

. Graphic Design Tools-

Designers needs to get software skills to create their art digitally we all know in the era of digitalization traditional techniques are eliminated. Designers need to sketch or start with the basic blueprints or concept of art with pen and paper. Then, second step is to shift on software tools.
